Ko Review : First Day First Show

No one can forget the visual treat which they experienced from the movie Ayan directed by K V Anand. Now the director have come out with a bigger treat with a different story line and different lead roles. Yes, it is the first summer block buster Ko, which is already rocking the music chart list.
K V Anand have not deceived us after the hype given to the movie from the day it is initiated.
Story Baseline
Ashwin (Jeeva) is a young and dynamic photojournalist working for a Tamil daily Dina Anjal. Renuka (Karthika Nair) is a article editor and Saraswathi (Piaa) also work along with him in the same office. Love blossoms between Ashwin and Renuka, but Renuka hides initially as her friend Saraswathi loves Ashwin from the past. However, Ashwin manages to attract Renuka. Though the teaser trailer and songs portrays the film to be a romantic number primarily, the movie is basically a political thriller with various ingredients including love. Vasanth (Ajmal Ameer) is an aspiring young politician who works along with his like minded friends to get into politics to serve the needy. Vasanth and his team ( called Siragugal) organize a political campaign in front of the people, where the story gets a twist. Bomb blasts in the stage and many casualties occur, however Ashwin saves Vasanth with the information he receives through SMS from Saraswathi. Saraswathi too dies in this same incident.
The second half gets into the final lap of the race when Ashwin comes to know that Saraswathi was killed brutally in the crowd which he notices through the video footage during the incident. Meanwhile, Vasanth and his Siragugal contest in the election and win majority of seats and Vasanth becomes the youngest Chief Minister. But the story gets the major twist here after when the secrets are revealed about Saraswathi's death and bomb blasts during the political campaign. Rest all is the climax and how it reaches the happy ending.

Plus

  1. Harris Jayaraj music is definitely a huge plus. However few background scores remains us about his past movies including that of Vaaranam Aayiram.
  2. Cinematography is awesome and definitely a visual treat.  Though Richard K Anand is the cinematographer, K V Anand touch is visible in several scenes.
  3. Perfect cast and none of the lead roles makes us to think for a change of actor/actress in that particular role.
  4. Finally, its the screenplay which makes us to sit in the chair till the end.
Minus
Most of them in the theater felt a sigh at the situation when the song Venpaniye comes. It just comes in the beginning of the second half when the sorrow of the causalities especially that of Pia still lies in our mind. So  keeps us away from enjoying the visual and musical treat of the song. This also remains me about the song Nenje Nenje from his previous movie Ayan, which just comes after the death of Tammanah brother.

Something to ask the director
The director being a photo journalist in the past have exactly portrayed through Jeeva about how a photo journalist should be. But the same logic misses when it comes to giving election symbol to Vasanth's Siragugal.  Is it possible to get the symbol which we ask in all the assemblies for a new party (first time)?
Till the climax, the director have come across the minds of several youngsters like me to bring a change in the society. Netri Potil song warms the blood. But Ajmal role in the climax brings down all these mind set. Even an aspiring young politician who really likes to work for the people will get negative effects from at least a certain percentage of people when they watch the climax. Finally, what will be the time taken for a land mine to blast after removing the leg?

Verdict
Throwing away all the logic's, the movie is worth watching and will be sure entertainer for this summer. I would rate 3.7 out of 5.
